Bible

As a Christian school, not only is Bible a separate class, but our teachers integrate Biblical truths in every subject. In fourth grade, students are introduced to Bible truths that will enable them to understand God’s Word and be motivated toward obedience from the heart.

Computer

This course is designed to introduce students to the use of computers through hands-on experiences. Students become familiar with the basic operation of the computer and the use of skill reinforcement programs.

Health

Text: Developing Good Health

This course begins with a unit on physical fitness and emphasizes the skeletal, muscular, and respiratory systems. Practical instruction is given regarding personal hygiene, including a study of the teeth and skin. The course also covers interpersonal relationships which teaches the students how to have a right relationship with God and with others, stressing the necessity of maintaining close family relationships and the importance of choosing the right friends.

History

Text: North Carolina History

This course leads students through a thorough study of North Carolina’s proud history. The students are introduced to individuals who blazed the trail and to those who pushed ahead even in the face of adversity. Every individual introduced in the course has something to teach the students. Topics covered in this historical study of North Carolina include: The Early Settlers; Early Statehood; The Consequences of War; Postwar Progress; and North Carolina Government.

Math

Text: Arithmetic 4

In fourth grade, the four basic processes are taught and reviewed, as well as multiplying and dividing by two-digit numbers, estimation, square measures, writing decimals as fractions, and simple geometry. A major emphasis is placed on working with fractions, both proper and improper; adding, subtracting, and multiplying fractions; and finding the least common denominator.

Language

Students in this course will write book reports, letters, and factual reports as they continue to be given traditional grammar training. They will learn to recognize all eight parts of speech, identify simple and compound subjects and verbs, diagram subjects, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs, and learn simple rules for correct word usage.

Reading

Text: Reading 4:1 – 4:4

Four readers filled with modern and classic stories with great character themes, are followed by two Christian novels. Reading on this level helps students to enlarge their reading interests, to skim, and to develop their reading speed and powers of comprehension. Students gain practice in recalling information, noticing implications, and using reasoning skills.

Science

Text: Understand God’s World

This course presents a fascinating study of science by presenting things that students can see, observe, and understand in the world around them. Students learn how to make an insect zoo, how to recognize the plants they see every day, how to attract birds to their own back yards, how to use field guides, how to interpret cloud formations, and how to identify rocks. They learn to appreciate the miracle of plant germination, the causes of weather, the God-given provisions for life on earth, the design of the starry heavens, the ecology of the ocean depths, and many other aspects of God’s creative genius.

Spelling

Text: Spelling & Poetry 4

Using the teach/practice/test approach to spelling and vocabulary, students learn to spell from weekly word lists that feature a phonics key.

Handwriting

Text: Penmanship Mastery I

This course provides daily practice for penmanship excellence, with an emphasis on correct formation, spacing, letter size, and overall neatness.
