Academics > Senior High Electives Computer
Applications
This course is
designed for students to become proficient in using Microsoft
Office, with specific emphasis placed on Word, Excel, Access, and
PowerPoint. Students will also learn to use FrontPage in order to
gain desktop publishing skills.
College and Career
Planning/SAT Prep
The purpose of
this course is two-fold: First semester students prepare for the
College Board SAT, using a curriculum created by the College Board
especially for this purpose. They will review skills and learn
test-taking strategies for the verbal, math and writing tests on the
SAT. During second semester, students examine their own God-given
abilities and interests in order to start planning for a college
major and an eventual career. Our Christian text points students to
a study of how to determine God’s will for their lives and
encourages them to make decisions based on what God would have them
do.
Office Practicum
In this course
students gain practical experience by developing skills that are
part of the real-world working environment. They help with general
office duties such as reception, filing, answering the phone, etc.
Students in this course require administrative approval and are
expected to maintain a professional manner for the office.
Office Runner
Students who take
this elective serve as general helpers for the various offices on
campus, including the elementary, junior high, and senior high
offices. They may perform errands including couriering mail or other
documents from one office to another, escorting elementary students
to their private music lessons, or preparing mailouts.
Teacher Aide
Students in this
course serve as assistants to faculty members. They may help with
duties such as putting up bulletin boards, cutting out letters,
getting out materials for the next day’s lesson, etc. These students
do not grade quizzes or tests or have access to the teacher’s
records. This is an excellent elective choice for students who are
considering entering the teaching profession, as they have
opportunity to observe classroom instruction as a non-participant.
Other Electives
Please see the
academic course descriptions for information regarding electives in
the core subject areas. Any academic course beyond those required
for graduation counts as an elective. (For example, Modern American
History, Current World Events, extra science courses, etc.)
