Justin Harrison Class of 2006 Mission Trip to the Ukraine

Justin Harrison, 2006 alumnus, recently took a missions trip to the Ukraine. Pictures of some of the children receiving JOY boxes are shown with his write-up of his experience below:

"I had a great time in Ukraine. We stayed about five minutes outside of Zhitomir in a small village. I stayed with one other guy about my age with a family in the village. On the way in we landed in Amsterdam, in the front end of a hurricane. We ended up on international news, that's how bad it was. It caused our luggage to be delayed two or three days, luckily I packed some spare clothes in my carry on. We didn't have the JOY boxes for the first couple of days, so they improvised with bags of toys, toothbrushes, and fruit. The kids loved it, they were even more ecstatic to see Americans and to hear the word. When we finally got the JOY boxes, we split up into two groups to give out the boxes. I went with both groups; I just switched around every day. The first day we went to four schools and ended up running out of boxes. The second day we went about 30-35 miles away from Chernobyl. It was bad out there, a lot of abandoned houses. By the end of our stay in the village we had given out almost all the boxes. We left what we hadn't given out to the schools and orphanages. After we left Ukraine we spent a night in Amsterdam. It was a major culture shock. After staying there we finally came back home. Don't get me wrong it was better than I had ever expected, but I missed America and its glorious and greasy food! I want to thank every one who helped pay for my trip and who prayed for me while I was over there. It was an excellent experience and I encourage anyone, who can make the time to go, to do it."
