If
someone asked me how to describe my trip to San Jose, Costa Rica in
one word, it would be impossible. As a team we walked into this
thinking we would be inspiring and changes others’ lives, when in
reality it was ourselves that were inspired and impacted. As the
trip began and as we went about the events we had planned, I quickly
came to realize that it was not only the Costa Ricans whose lives
were being changed, but my own. I was able to see true joy in the
worst of circumstances and a very humbling
gratefulness. From the time we spent visiting families in “'the
hole” (the poorest part of San Jose), playing with the children at
the daycare, cleaning church buildings, handing out tracks and just
being around the people who were taking care of us, each event
opened our eyes to a world that very few of us ever expected to see.
Even though I was only able to speak a few words consisting of
gracias, denada, por favor, gorditas,
and
Dios le bendiga, I truly believe that the work that SCORE had us do
spoke volumes to the people there and that because of what they saw
us doing and how we played on the court, lives
will be changed. God not only worked in my life, but I believe that
He worked in every one of my teammates’ lives. I am so thankful for
the opportunity that I had to go to Costa Rica. I will always look
back on this trip as a life-changing experience. We all had so much
fun serving, riding in the buses and playing together. God
definitely bonded us all together on this trip and the effects of
this trip will continue to be seen throughout our season. God was
honored during this trip and
His
life saving message was shared with many people whom I can now call
my brothers and sisters in Christ. The trip to Costa Rica was more
than just a mission trip or a chance to play volleyball; it was a
moment in my life that I will carry with me forever. “Thank You” is
not enough to say for giving me this amazing opportunity. If it
wasn’t for your gracious gift and support, this experience would not
have been possible. Once again, Thank You!!!
