Ben Rudolph Speaks at Camp Windy Gap
Senior high students kicked off the 09-10 school year with their traditional week at Windy Gap camp in Weaverville,
just north of Asheville, NC. Campers enjoyed their usual venue of swimming, blobbing in the lake, swinging
through the tree tops, and playing a constant beach volleyball game. The weather was great all week until Thursday,
when rain forced the cancellation of the much anticipated Steeplechase.
Highlights of the week, however, centered on the chapel services where former NBC youth pastor Ben Rudolph challenged
the students from the Bible. Ben’s experience with youth helped him zero in on much needed areas of spiritual advice.
He spent the morning sessions talking about characteristics of good friends, reminding students that true friends tell you
when you’re doing something wrong. Ben spoke in the evening sessions about minor characters in the Bible who had a
major impact. In each instance, one action of a character had long-lasting implications not only for himself,
but on others as well, including an entire nation. This was a very practical reminder that our actions affect others.
Class challenges, memory verse recitation, and facing the faculty in games of trench rounded out the week. Students
returned home to live out the verse the Student Council chose for this year’s theme: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17). Truly, we’re “Not the Same.”
